First
it was Hurricane Katrina. The Apple’s Mobile Catering team rushed
to the Gulf States where they were dispatched to Mississippi to help
pick up the pieces. They spent nearly two months feeding doctors, nurses and other military personnel stationed at a US Army field hospital treating victims of the worst hurricane in the history of the country. |

Apple's spent nearly two months feeding doctors, nurses and other military personnel stationed at a US Army field hospital treating victims of the worst hurricane in the history of the country. Weather experts said there would be more, but three years passed with very little activity. And when bad weather did finally arrive it came in threes. Rita followed by Gustav, and finally an even fiercer weather front in the form of Ike, battered the coastlines of Texas and Mississippi. Once more, Apple’s made the trek from Idaho to the region to help where they could, feeding as many as 1,500 people a day.

Coming
back to the region three years later, owner and operator David Orr sees
much undone from Katrina’s aftermath. “It’s incredible
that so much of the region is still either demolished or under construction.
And now with these most recent hurricanes, it seems like it could be
another few years before they can get it all put back together. It’s
really sad. We feel fortunate that we’re able to be here helping
in any way we can with the relief effort.” |
